The Sacred Cauldron

From Saladin Pelfrey, Spiritual Director:
Years ago on our annual Rogue River camping trip, Khalil Elliot, Ishaq Jud, and I discussed deepening “The Message” at Northwest Sufi Camp, together envisioning a week-long, seamless opportunity to “cook.” This year’s theme, a fruit of that time, is dedicated in loving memory to Sheikh Ishaq Jud.
The Sacred Cauldron invokes Rumi’s poetic chickpea who initially tries to jump out of the boiling cauldron, only to be repeatedly hit back into the pot by the cook (teacher). Finally accepting the necessity of cooking, the chickpea ultimately begs to be knocked back into the stew. This affinity for leaping into the sacred cauldron is characteristic of mature travelers of the spiritual path.
Camp activities will encircle a sacred, open, central heart space, the Cauldron, where guides will offer practices and generate atmosphere outside the class schedule. Traditional and innovative class offerings will be available as well. Please join us for spiritual nurturance in sacred community.
